Department of Sociology, Umeå University

The Department of Sociology at the Umeå University is active in a wide range of sociological research and teaching. The most important fields of research are political sociology, social policy, the sociology of working life and of work environment, of immigration and ethnicity, and the sociology of science.

The department was founded in 1966, and is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Umeå University. Presently about 40 researchers, lecturers and doctoral students are employed at the department. The ISSP modules are administered by a small group of researchers at the department, while the field-work is conducted by public and private opinion pollsters.
